Wash Dayaries #9- I’ve Reached my Breaking Point or Should I Say Cutting Point ?

Hey guys! So yesterday, I attended a walkathon and Zumba Fitness session and as a result wash day had to come earlier than I expected. So for  the walkathon, I put my hair into 2 fishtail braids which I jazzed up with a headband (look out for a tutorial). However, By then end of the entire event my hair was a sweaty, stink and dry-feeling, tangled, MESS! I couldn’t possibly wait for tomorrow to begin washday so I got to work right away!

Focus: Balance of Protein and Moisture

Pre-poo- I sectioned my hair into four sections and applied my COC oil mix to my scalp. Using a mixture of the Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser and L’oréal Paris Damage Erasing Balm, I coated my entire hair shaft and twisted up the sections. These two products, which are protein based, contain hydrolyzed protein which I think works really well on my hair… It makes my hair feel both strong and hydrated. I covered my hair in a plastic cap and pre-pooed for quite a while ( I had a really busy day!)

Shampoo and Conditioner- If you have seen my updated regimen then you know that I scheduled a clarifying wash for this week using my Suave Professionals Morrocan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. This was my first time using this and WOW! It was the 💣💥👍. I never really opted to purchase this, I only decided to use it because my mom bought two huge bottles of the shampoo and conditioner on sale for me and I couldn’t possibly waste it, but I am sooooo happy that she did because this stuff is A- ma-zingggg ( I MUST do a review soon). So I washed my hair in two sections using the shampoo twice on each section. I then followed up with the conditioner and let it sit for about 10 minutes and rinsed.

Deep Condition and Airdry- I ran out of time because I had some stuff to do but this is where having a Deep Conditioner that can double as a leave-in comes in handy. So I t-shirt dried my hair, applied the Deep Conditioner/Leave-in and allowed my hair to airdry for the remainder of the day.  However, 20 minutes into Airdrying I became super annoyed with my ends and as you may or may not recall, I was trying to repair them and do a trim in December but I couldn’t wait any longer so I cut off approximately an inch of hair from my ends on both  sides of my head. Pictures at the end!

Moisturize and Style- I allowed my hair to completely dry and it felt great. It felt light and fluffy but moisturized at the same time and with my trim making my hair blunt and thick… I was in love! My hair felt so moisturized at I didn’t need to use the LCO method to moisturize and seal so I didn’t use my leave-in… Instead I just used my One N Only Argan Oil moisturizer and my Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Dry Oil and that did the trick. Since I trimmed like hours ago and I wanted to maintain my hair, I didn’t set it in Flexi-rods as I am going to be following a VERY STRICT protective style regimen where I allow myself to wear my hair out once per week and baggying my ends on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I simply but it in a low, loose bun and secured with two bobby pins.

Here are some pictures of my trim,  keep in mind that I experience some shrinkage after Airdrying so this is not the actual length of my hair, with the trim, my hair is still BSL, it’s just not as far down my bra strap as before…. It’s about one-quarter inch on my bra-strap now.

Overall thoughts: I fell in love with this shampoo and conditioner amd I think it actually subsided the product junkie in me for me to consider it as my staple Shampoo and Conditioner from now on…. Time will tell! It made my hair feel great and moisturized while being light and flowy. Not to mention, it gave my hair A-lot of body and volume. I am also super happy with my trim… As I mentioned in a few other posts I am scissors happy and thinning ends usually don’t stay on my head for very long but I am definitely going to try and maintain my ends for as long as possible. I also noticed very little shedding this week….. The least amount since I began my stretch actually so that’s a definite plus. It was a great washday and I am super happy with my hair right now.

Set It and Forget It Series: The Tight Flexi-Rod Set

Hello! So I’m starting a new series for heatless hair styling since most of us heat abusers need something to help us through flat iron rehab. Therefore I will be showcasing tutorials on how to achieve, different curls with a flexi rod set, perm rod set, Bantu knots, braid outs, twist outs and showing you how to style them as well. A a you can tell by the title this will be a flexi-rod set where achieve tight curls! Even though the shrinkage is oh my! It’s a cute style that allows you to forget about the length of your hair for a while.

Step 10: If I have any flyaways, using my leave-in mousse, I pass my hand around the rod, in the direction of the curl, to smooth them down.

Step 11: After wrapping all the rods for the thickness and length of my hair, I use 35 blue rods in total. I the. Cover with my satin scarf very loosely to allow my hair air to dry overnight.

Step 12: The next morning I coat my hands in my Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Dry Oil and take down the flexi-rods, unwrapping in the opposite direction of the curl.

And Voila!…. A tight flexi rod set which you can style to your liking.

Wash Dayaries #8- Werk Those Curls!

Hey guys…. So today is my second wash day since I have made my official regimen products list and I must the inner product junkie in me has subsided( for now at least). I did plan on making the Carols Daughter Anti Breakage Monoi leave-in my staple for this stretch but I have found a new leave- in which I think I prefer. I washed my hair on Saturday instead of Sunday because I had an event to attend and wanted my hair to already be washed and styled. This week was a scheduled Cowash so let’s go!

Focus: Moisture

Deep Condition( Friday night 11:54 p.m)- I mixed my Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair DC with my Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser and COC oil mix. I applied it to dry hair in four sections  using the relaxer method and then coated my ends. I twisted each section, secured with a clip and covered with a plastic cap. I placed a cotton headband around the cap to absorb any runny conditioner or oil overnight and tied my satin scarf.

Cowash( Saturday morning 8:45 a.m)- As I took down my twists my hair felt bomb! Overnight Deep conditioning is here to stay! Anyway, so I cowashed each section using my Au Naturale Cleansing Conditioner de la Creme and scrubbed my scalp in gentle circular motions using my shampoo massage brush. I rinsed and repeated.  I the applied a little bit of my Beautiful Textures DC once more, to cease any stripping that may or may not have occurred. I finger detangled under running water, Easy breezy!

Airdrying (9:13 a.m)- I t-shirt dried my hair for about 15 minutes and applied my new leave-in, Garnier Fructis Hydra-recharge Whipped Moisture Leave-in Conditioner and my Beautiful Yextures Moisture Butter and left my hair for the rest of the day to airdry.

Stylling (11:03 p.m)- I became super busy over the course of the day and so my hair was allowed to dry to 100% and more if hats possible. I moisturized using the LCO method ( Garnier Fructis Whipped Moisture, One N’ Only Argan Oil Curl Cream and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Dry Oil.) I then sectioned my hair and did a tight flexi- rod set (next post) which I left overnight to dry. I coated my palms with the Garnier Fructis Dry oil, took down the rods, separated and fluffed with a hair pic. I forgot to take a picture of my hair after O finished the entire process so here’s some pics of the result after a long day….

Overall thoughts: Wash day was once again super easy and as a result of just doing a co-wash super quick. It only lasted a day because I got too busy to style my hair. My hair shedding was at a minimum and it responded to all products used very well. I loved the results and can’t wait to rock my curls for the rest of the week!

Wash Dayaries #7- Can We Just Start Over?

Hey guys! So I got a relaxer last week after a 14 week stretch and claimed BSL. However, I am not quite happy with my method of getting there. I was very inconsistent with my products and regimen so what better chance to start fresh than a new stretch.

Focus: Protein

Prepoo (10:30 p.m Saturday)- So based on my analysis of my hair last week, my hair has a little bit of thinning and I want to put an end it to it NOW so I’m really gonna pay a lot of attention to my ends from now on. I heated my COC oil mix and applied it to my hair in four sections. I finger detangled which was a breeze and then I applied a mix of L’oréal Paris Damage Erasing Balm and Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser to my ends only. I twisted each section, put on plastic cap and scarf and left it on overnight.

Shampoo and Condition (6:07 a.m Sunday)- I washed my hair in two sections. I had planned to use my Suave Morrocan Professionals Shampoo mind Conditioner however, over the summer I bought the Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Shampoo and Conditioner and it had one use remaining so I decided to finish it. I applied the shampoo to my scalp and used my shampoo massage brush to work it in. I then rinsed and repeated and applied conditioner. I then did the same thing on the other section. I did my shower routine and rinsed the conditioner out.

Deep Condition (7:23 a.m)- I dried my hair lightly with a towel. I did a protein treatment using my Africa’s Best Hair Mayo and Africa’s Best Tea Tree Cholesterol. I left it on for 20 minutes while sitting under my Gold N Hot Deep Conditioning Heat Cap and rinsed it on under cool water while I detangled with my wide tooth comb.

Airdrying (8:20 a.m)- I towel dried my hair for about 10 minutes. I applied my leave-in conditioning mix, even though I planned to use my Carols Daughter Anti-Breakage Spray however it will be delivered tomorrow. I also applied my Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter to my hair and allowed it to airdry.

Styling(6:28 p.m)- I allowed my hair to dry till about 80%. I then parted it into 6 sections. I moisturized each section using the LCO method with my Leave-in Conditioning Spray, One N’ Only Argan Oil Styling Cream and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Dry Oil. Using the largest size of flexi-rods (indigo colour), I set my hair and allowed it to dry until I was ready to go to bed. When I took it down… It wasn’t completely dry but it had a really loose set… Which I like! So I just used some warm air from my blowdryer to dry the loose curl while holding it on the palm of my hands. I then separated the curls with my fingers and of course I had to have some fun with my curls…. Pictures at the end! However, I was going for a sleek look this week, so I wrapped my hair and left it overnight. Here’s the results!

Total Time: Approximately 12 hours excluding overnight times

Overall thoughts: I enjoyed this wash day so much…. I mean everything is so much easier with a fresh relaxer! Scrubbing my scalp, check! Detangling, check check! Styling, checkkkk! My hair came out great in both the curly and straight styles so I am one happy camper. My shedded hairs were an absolute minimum and my hair felt moisturized but wasn’t weighed down…Couldn’t ask for anything better!
