Formal Hair Lookbook: Vintage Curls with Side Pin Accent

Hey guys! Along our hair journey, we sometimes encounter formal events which require the appropriate hairstyle however super elaborate hairstyle may do more harm than good. So I wanted to simply share a few low manipulation hairstyles that can be used for any formal setting.

The first look is vintage inspired but it can also take a modern feel and  is extremely simple and beautiful. It involves the use of heat but using a heat protectant is extremely essential. I utilized the John Frieda Frizz Ease Styling Cream which doubles as a heat protectant and heat styling product to tame frizz and create a sleek look.

I began this hairstyle on week old flat ironed hair however, it can be done on any form of stretched hair. Tip! If you would like a more voluminous look, blow dried hair would be perfect for this style.

I did approximately one inch curls, using my ceramic Gold n Hot curling iron on 350 degrees throughout my entire hair and pinned each one after curling to allow them to cool and set in its curl for approximately 30 minutes. This gives the curls a longer durability, bounce and  volume.

After the curls set, I gently took them down and created a side part. I then proceeded to separate the curls slightly to increase the volume. Then, using the hair on the left side of the side part, I created a flat twist and secured with Bobby pins.

This step was optional but I used a vintage, silver, floral  hair comb to accentuate the twist and secure it at the side.

Take a look at the completed style!

The Best Protective Style Ever: Princess Crown Braids

So let me begin with a special shoutout to one of my most active followers….@teamsavingourstrands! This post is dedicated to you since you gave me the idea for this post with your request.

If you were one to follow my blog from its conception, and you previously followed my old IG account then you are no stranger to my absolute favorite protective style which I call Princess Crown Braids. Don’t let the name fool you…. It’s extremely easy and simple!

In a nutshell, I moisturize, seal, create a side part, do two large cornrows around the perimeter of my head, tuck the ends of each braid under each other in the back of my head and then I slick my edges.

Super easy!!!!! It’s an awesome protective style and I am going to tell you all the reasons why!

1. It causes no breakage and no tension on the the hair and edges because your hair is in a huge, thick braid which lessens the pulling and tugging on the hair as would a bun since there are no hair ties.

2. It’s also very easy to preserve by simply sleeping on a satin bonnet or a satin scarf as a result, it can last for up to a week without manipulation.

3.  You can easily moisturize and seal your ends without undoing the hairstyle because you can just take down the pins , unravel the ends of the braid, moisturize, seal , rebraid and reposition! This is great because even though your hair is in a protective style, it will not become super dry.

4. It’s super chic! Not only are many variations of this hairstyle being worn all over the world but it’s absolutely beautiful and effortless. It’s face framing and therefore accentuates any casual look.

5. It doubles as a braid out! When unraveling both braids, you will soon realize that your hair has some luscious, well-defined waves which make for a super cute braid out.

Braid out? See for your self…..

I hope, you enjoyed this post and if you try this hairstyle definitely let me know! Follow me at my new IG account @iam_misstress and tag me so that I can see! Don’t forget to flow my blog also so that you never miss out on the fun!

imageHave you ever flat ironed your hair and it got to about a week old and no matter how much you shake or wrap it….. It fell DEAD straight! Annoying right?? But if you on your hair journey…. Using a curling iron is not the best option for bounce as it uses more heat application to hair. Sooooooo…. What do I do? Flexi- Rods! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

So I was in that exact same predicament today because I relaxed and flat ironed my hair a week ago but when I went to style my hair the day before my New Years Eve party it was flat and lifeless. So I did that set and I absolutely love this style! It makes me fall in love with my hair all over again. So much so that… I took a million pictures of it before I went to the party which you can see right there 👇

Set It and Forget It ! Series: The Braidout

Hey all! So we all know sometimes, straight hair isn’t the preferred style for anyone, so I am going to be continuing this series showing texture style tutorials that can be achieved on relaxed hair. I will continue the series with one of the most common styles known to women ; the Braidout, a staple technique in the hair journeys of both relaxed and naturals that is super quick and easy.

Super Cute Fishtail Braids!

What’s up guys? So, I have began exercising at my home gym….. And most of us need cute working out hairstyles. This is also a great low-manipulative style for a really casual event and cam easily be transformed into an elegant protective style. Not to mention, it looks like if you put hours into your hair when you really put in like 5 minutes but shhhhh! I won’t tell anyone if you won’t 😏

The finished product (forgot to take a picture) is super cute! You have a nice curl at the ends of the braid and you can also accesorize it with a headband, sweatbamd or even a floral clip etc. Enjoy!
