Relaxer Update- June 2016

And it’s here!!!!! Yes,by the title, you’ve guessed it… Another Relaxer Day! I relaxed my hair at 12 weeks post, as scheduled and I am really loving the same stage of my hair right now. Relaxer days always bring me joy mostly because I can see my hard work paying off and I feel so rewarded and stimulated.

I started by preparing my hair for the relaxer which I explained in my last post, the night before and the next day I got to it. If you have read my other relaxer updates, then you are aware that my mother, a professional hairdresser, does my relaxer touch-ups every three months. I use the Kids Organics Texture Softener which is not a relaxer, but I still do not consider myself texlaxed as my hair has very minimal texture.

This texture softening kit comes with a scalp guard and texture control which must be applied to the scalp and hair shaft respectively to protect against any excessive damage so we first began by applying these products even though my hair was previously coated with oil. You can never be too careful! 😂 My mother then proceeded to apply the relaxer to my new growth and after approximately 15-20 minutes she rinsed and neutralized my hair.

The kit comes with a light protein treatment which I mixed with my Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner and applied to my hair. I sat under my deep conditioning cap for 30 minutes and rinsed and Detangled under cool, running water.

I then applied some Carols Daughter Mirabelle Plum Conditioner to my hair and let it sit for 5 minutes as my hair still felt a little dry. My mother then applied the Lottabody Setting Lotion to my hair as well as the Creme of Nature Argan oil Treatment and I sat under the hooded dryer for 1 hour. This was my first time doing this as means of drying my hair on relaxer day and the results were great but the heat was INTENSE!

After drying under the hooded dryer

Airdrying in a ponytail

After an hour my hair still wasn’t fully dry, and I refused to go back under that “hell hole” so I just airdried in a ponytail for the remainder of time.My mother applied the John Frieda Frizz Ease Styler and the Creme of Nature Sleek and Shine Polisher. My hair was then lightly blow dried at high heat, low speed for smoothness and flat ironed at 300 degrees.

Here are the results:

I am finally claiming full MBL which mean I am one step away from WL hair!!!!! I urge you, my fellow sisters on your hair journey, never give up! It took me three years to get here and I don’t regret any minute of it. I hope you enjoyed this post and of course, don’t forget to follow my blog and my IG account @iam_misstress to keep up with he hair fun as we grow inches one by one!

Change of Plans: No Washday!

Hey guys! You may have noticed that I did not post a washday diary entry yesterday so I thought I would explain. I am attending two graduation ceremonies next week, one of which is on Tuesday and the other is on Thursday. My mom, who was previously a professional hairdresser always does my hair, and seeing that I need a relaxer, my mom will be doing it as usual and styling it for the graduation. We had originally planned to have my hair done over the coming weekend.

However, she is going on a mini vacation with her friends from Thursday of this week to Monday of next week and therefore she will be at home the day before the first ceremony! She has thus decided, to ensure that I get my hair done on time, that she will do it before she leaves for the trip which will be Wednesday,i.e, tomorrow!

So instead of washing my hair, I am going to be preparing it for the relaxer today which I will of course, share with you all!

Back Again?!

Hey guyssssssss…..! Yes I know…. I’m a complete stranger by now😩 As I was coming to do this post, I saw that my last post had been uploaded 100 days ago!!!!! And my absolute honest, insufficient and unreasonable explanation is “Life happens.” However, in my absence I didn’t complete forget my blog…… I have been thinking about great post and series  ideas which I can’t wait to share and also.. My hair routine and my hair itself has changed quite a bit. With that being said, we definitely have alot to chat about!

So for this post, I thought I’d focus on my change and updates in my hair and hair regimen.

1. Cowashing- Okay, so this I had to mention first because it’s probably the most surprising and major change that occurred in the past 100 days! After myriads and myriads of failed attempts at cowashing, followed by continuous expressions that “Cowashing just isn’t for me”, I finally experienced the greatness of a good co-wash! And to top it all of, it was completely unplanned! So in the past few months, I was faced with tons of exams and projects which kept me super busy, so much so, washing my hair became secondary.

However, my hair began to shed and break due to dryness and neglect and I refused to watch all my hard work and inches go down the drain, so I needed a quick and easy solution! One day, I simply decided…. Okay I will just put conditioner on my hair every 3-4 days and rinse to retain some moisture. So when I began this plan, I started looking for a conditioner to do so and I came across the MAGICAL Creme of Nature Pure-licious Cowash in my mothers product cabinet and of course, my curiosity and inner product junkie got the better of me and so I decided to give it a try. From my first application and rinse, I fell completely in love and the rest is history😂!

Now I Cowash my hair once a week on a Thursday and wash my hair with my shampoo on a Sunday( or if I have limited time, I Cowash again). I will be doing a product demo and in depth review of this Cowash in a few weeks so look out for that!

2. My Hair Anniversary and Relaxer Update- So I relaxed my hair at the end of March when my 12 week stretch had concluded. I didn’t blow dry or flat iron my hair with this stretch because I was loving a jumbo flexi-rod set! Therefore, I don’t have a length check for this update but I have a few pics of my hair.

I also celebrated my three year hair anniversary in April and I am so proud to say that I am grazing MBL hair at the end of my three years! I really wanted to do a post for my hair anniversary but hey! “Life happens”😂.I straightened my hair and did a length check for my hair anniversary however so I guess I can use that as my relaxer update length check since my hair anniversary and relaxer day was a week or two apart.

As you all can see, there’s not much of a length difference be uses I trimmed my hair during that stretch and was mainly focused on the health of my ends which I must say has significantly improved.

3. Protective Styling- Due to my busy schedule, I’ve also been protective styling A LOT! As you all know, Princess Crown Braids as I call them are my absolute favorite protective style and I wear them for almost anything! Not to mention how easy they are to manipulate because they can also double as a braid out! I’ve been wearing them every-single- day for the past 5-6 weeks but recently my scalp started to become a bit sore from the braids so I have switched it up with some buns etc. However, I really want to try to get to full MBL by the year’s end so I am protective styling like crazy!!! I am also trying to avoid daily manipulation to my hair so I’ve been moisturizing every two days and placing my hair in the same style. It’s been really really great to my hair! My shedding is at a minimum (even at 8 weeks post),  it’s extremely soft and manageable, not to mention real easy to Detangle and style!

4. Washing My Hair- Usually I used to wash my hair in sections, however, on days where I had limited time I started washing my hair going straight back all at once and I gradually noticed that I got less shedding this way. So obviously I was all for it- a super simple and easy way to wash hair that reduces time and shedding….Definitely!

Well guys, that’s about it for my hair update and changes. I am so glad to be back and I intend to be very active for these next three months so I hope we can have some hair fun together! I’ll be posting at least 3 times a week from now on and of course, my wash day series will resume weekly. I am super excited…😁😝✌🏾️

Thanks for reading…. Don’t forget to follow my blog and I deleted my old IG page so I’ll be doing a new one soon!

Just to Let Ya Know!

Hey guys! So a few weeks ago I was away from my blog because I was super sick and as a result my work piled up on me so I had to complete my schoolwork first and then make time to blog. During my short blogging absence however I did make some changes to my regimen because I realized that as my hair grows it changes and needs different things…. which I want to share with you.

1. My Shampooing Process- Even though I am still using my Suave Morrocan Sleek Shampoo, I have altered the process by which I apply it which is exactly as follows:

I apply the shampoo to section 1, work it into my scalp and clip it up. I apply the shampoo to section 2, work it into my scalp and clip it up. I go back to section 1, rinse the shampoo and lather my scalp again, after which, I clip it up. I then go to section 2, rinse and lather the scalp, and clip it up. I go back to section 1 and rinse, which I then repeat on section 2.

Phew!!! That’s a lot of work, to type and do! But my hair has never felt cleaner!

2. Cowashing- I am not sure if it’s the Cowash that I am using or if Cowashing is just not for me but my hair does not enjoy cowashed at all. Even though my hair feels a tad bit moisturized after Cowashing, my scalp is still super dirty due to the fact that I get a lot of buildup over the course of one week.mthis results in tangles and just an overall difficult time drying and styling so I have chosen to stick to weekly shampoos which I makes my scalp happy and healthy.

3. My Deep Conditioning- I am entering the second half of my stretch and since I have new growth coming in, I would need a whole lot more protein and moisture to maintain healthy hair with minimal shedding and breakage. So, I have decided to use my Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner and my L’oréal Paris Damage Erasing Balm weekly. I will use the Damage Erasing Balm as a prepoo and sit under my deep conditioning cap for 10 minutes and apply my rapid repair deep conditioner after I shampoo and condition for 25 minutes under my cap. I apply both deep conditioners sing the relaxer method which is where I apply the mix to my new growth first and then my ends. The Beautiful Textures provide my hair with moisture while the L’oréal Paris provides light protein and ceramides which reconstruct and strengthen the hair and is safe enough for weekly use without getting protein overload.

4. Black Tea Rinses- I have began adding black tea rinses back into my regimen since I am in the second half of my stretch. I boil two cups of water and then steep 2 tea bags. I add a half cup of coconut oil to the tea, mix and add it to my spray bottle. This mix last me about 4-5 weeks after which I make some more. I only began using it in the past week at 8 weeks post but I noticed a great decrease in shedding almost immediately after. I know that with continued use my shedding mill eventually be super minimal. I never used coconut oil with this before but it has definitely worked to penetrate my hair shaft leaving it soft when the black tea tends to leave it hard and dry.

5. New moisturizers- I recently purchase co two new moisturizers which are the ORS HAIRepair Intense moisture cream and anti breakage cream. I haven’t used them long enough to do a review but I love the anti-breakage cream wayy more than the intense moisture cream. Previously I used to use the One N’ Only Argan Oil styling cream and curl cream to moisturize my hair but I think it has only become useful when setting my hair. It doesn’t do a very good job moisturizing my hair throughout the week anymore.

6. General- My products are all nearing the end and I am not sure if I will repurchase or if I will try to clear up some stuff out of my cupboard since I am trying to maintain a consistent regimen of products, but I have already made so many changes it’s just impossible to be consistent with products because I have realized that my hair needs are changing.

Are you making any changes to your regimen? If so, why? Please feel free to leave your comments, advice and questions int the comment section.

MIssing in Action: Miss Tress!

Hey all! So I have been MIA for a bit and I just wanted to share my past present and future events with you guys in a quick little update on my hair and life as well as some posts you can look forward to on my blog, coming this fall.

First to begin with, my hair! So I have been going to the beach and pool like crazy! Which meant I had to say adios to my super duper hair pampering plans for the summer. In one of my previous posts on my updated summer hair regimen, I shared with you my plans for my hair during vacation but that was the furthest from what really happened. I didn’t neglect my hair 100% of course! I still washed, deep conditioned and even moisturized and sealed(when I felt like it). As a result of my inconsistency, I am not quite certain if I made my hair length goal of a healthy bra strap length at the end of summer. Currently, my hair is in an airdried state because it got wet in the rain after I styled it in flexi-rods for my birthday which was yesterday ! Curse that rain! 👎 I am now about to enter my pre-relaxer prep week where I wear my hair in really loose buns and oil it daily and of course, I don’t wash it.

I will be doing my first relaxer update on my blog in a few days, when I relax my hair during the last week of August. I do plan on doing a little trim, goal length or not, because I put my hair through quite a lot during these past few weeks and I think my ends deserve a fresh start. I also think that my regimen hasn’t been consistent at all, product wise, for a while, because all Sumer I have been using whatever I got my hands on for my regimen, so I am also going to assess my hair products and choose which I will be using from September to December for my other relaxer stretch. Hopefully, with some consistency, my hair can bounce back really well from my trim and I can see great length retention , so look out for that post as well!

Now unto life, I enjoyed two vacations with my family and I am really looking forward to going back to school in September and of course blogging. My blog goal from September is to post on Sundays and Fridays which I hope aimcan maintain. You can also look out for collaboration blog posts, alotttt of product reviews, my weekly wash Dayaries, some fun tags, a blog award and new categories of posts based on fashion and my different routines which I do to maintain  a healthy, beautiful body. I am also interested in doing Get Ready With Me posts sooo… I hope that I can accomplish all these things on my blog in the next few months. I promise you and myself that I will work really hard so follow me! Hope you enjoyed my updates!

See ya, Miss Tress 👌

My Updated Summer Hair Regimen

Hey all! So as I said in my previous wash day post, I wish to increase my moisture and length retention for the remainder of my stretch until August so I have added a few things to my regimen. My typical wash day will still remain as Sunday and I will follow my particular regimen for that day up until Airdrying. If interested you can see that regimen, here. After I have airdried, I will use my usual moisturizing products and follow the LCO method to moisturize and seal my hair. However, my go to style would be , what I like to call the Princess Crown Braids ( tutorial coming soon) which I think is a super easy, low manipulative, completely protective style that enables my to Moistuize, seal, apply oil to my scalp and such without taking my hair down from the braids completely. Plus, If I don’t want to wear the braids anymore, I could unravel them and get a bomb Braidout. Awesome right? Then I plan on moisturizing and sealing with my usual rotation of moisture and protein moisturizers until Thursday, when I would add in Cowashing to my regimen.

On Thursdays, after taking down my braids,  I will firstly deep condition using my Garnier Fructise Damage Eraser Balm, which I will always use on a Thursday and then Cowash using my Pantene Truly Natural Cowash. I will Cowash in two slack braids while using my Shampoo. Massaging Brush to lift the buildup and exfoliate my scalp. After Cowashing, I will reinforce a bit of moisture into my hair using my Garnier Fructis Hydra-recharge Conditioner and rinse after about 10 minutes. I will then airdry my hair till it’s about 50 – 75% dry, moisture and seal as I normally would and then rebraid my hair into the Princess Crown Braids. ( I may also use this Cowash to style my hair for the weekend in a heartless style, if I have somewhere to go but that’s hardly likely).

I am excited to initiate this regimen as I feel that it would really give my hair the boost it needs to pass my bra strap. I also think that it would work well together with my new exercise routine as well as my new found passion for fruit smoothies, so…fingers crossed, we’ll see!
